Embedded technology has always leveraged parts that are already being deployed on a large scale in the commercial field. Wide availability, large scale, ready usable investments in OS support, and optimized pricing for components due to large commercial volumes all contribute to this. Today we see the same thing happening with the breakthrough of ARM and RISC in the intelligent mobile phone and tablet market. COM (Computers on Module) will also play a crucial role to get this new technology accessible in a simple way to the masses.
